Cow Creek $15,000 grant awarded to Veterans Legacy Oregon
Veterans Legacy is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $15,000 Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation grant. The grant will be utilized to help fund the salaries of a peer mentor/case manager and a supervisor for Camp Alma, key hires that are much needed in the organizational expansion to better serve our Veterans.
“Veterans Legacy is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation to advance our efforts at Camp Alma,” Dr. John LeBow, Veterans Legacy President said.
Veterans Legacy Oregon is a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in 2016 to provide treatment to Veterans in a safe, secure, rural residential facility located in Lane County, Ore. We aim to break the cycle of Veteran suicides for underserved Veterans experiencing homelessness, mental health, and/or substance abuse issues. Our site at Camp Alma is a residential therapy facility for Veterans with a focus on the homeless Veteran population.
Helping Veterans to get off the streets, preventing Veteran suicide, integrating them into the community, and helping them feel as productive as possible makes a tremendous positive impact on the Veterans, their families, and our community.
Veterans Legacy’s ultimate goal is that each Veteran resident leaves Camp Alma addiction-free, with stable housing, and employment skills because this gives them the best possible chances for life-long success.

Developing relationships with the business community in the area is imperative for many goals that we at Veterans Legacy Oregon are trying to achieve. Certainly, sustainable fundraising is a primary need, but more broadly is the impact this interface can have on Veterans in the program and the region.
A major economic goal is to try and leverage the connections into vocational opportunities for our Veterans as they reintegrate into the community. This translates to a therapeutic benefit by building and enhancing the individual’s self-esteem and confidence in taking on life’s challenges in a successful manner going forward. Inevitably, with a close corporate interaction with Veterans Legacy/Camp Alma, we believe that Veterans within the company workforce will be more inclined to focus energies on participation in activities and mentoring.
This all serves to interlock many positives creating pride and camaraderie among Veterans, families, and friends who want to be a part of the effort to give back to those in need. Please call Dan Buckwald, Veterans Legacy Executive Director, or notify us on the website and we’ll get back to you to explain the support levels available along with the media exposure possibilities!
